The Healing Energy of Mugwort
Artemisia Vulgaris, common name Mugwort, is a pretty common wild plant, seen along the roadsides showing his glossy serrated leaves, flashes of his silvery belly as the breeze ruffles them. For me, Mugwort is one of the Master Sacrament plants that I work with a great deal of the time. I’ve mentioned Master Sacraments a lot in my posts, so, to add here that my own personal way of working has several plants that I choose to call Master Sacraments, those plants that are very potent, strong medicine that belong to the group of plants that can be called entheogens: that which generates the Divine within. Mugwort has a gentler yet no less strong effect on our minds way of receiving wisdom, and as such Medicine, combines so very well with Cacao when blended with Her.
Before I continue, I would like to include here a VERY important message about working with wild plants. It is incredibly important that any plants we choose to work with are done so with the utmost reverence for the wisdom these plants have to share with us. No matter if you buy the ingredients for your medicines online or from a store you personally visit, or that you choose to forage for them in their wild places. It is our personal responsibility to not only source our ingredients from the very best and most ethical suppliers we can find (research extensively before buying anything, and ask questions about how THEY source them) if we are foraging for plants ourselves, which many of us are keen to do, naturally, it is our duty of care as Earth Guardians, that we begin building a deep releationship with each plant even before we harvest any part of these plants. This can take weeks even months before the plant is ready to grant us permission to take them home for working with, it can, and often is, an immediate yes to our question. What ever the way we embark upon this quest, it is the way to approach this work. When we are harvesting, remember, take only what you NEED, never more than around 1/3 of the plants growth!!! And, always give thanks and an offering in exchange of some kind (some hair, food, water, what ever feels appropriate at the time – even go as far as asking what the plant would like in return) This way of building our relationship is a very beautiful way of being in our wild nature and is only right that we choose to walk this path of complete harmony with all of that around us.
So, to continue…this summer, as part of the Sacred Ecology Apprenticeship with Rachel Corby, we began working with Mugwort (and many other plants) in a deeper way, which I was SO happy to do, having until that point been kinda feeling around with how I’ve done things so far, to have this guidance not only from Rachel, but to be meeting the plants in their Spirit world and going really deep with them to be given their wisdom. On the day we were meeting with Mugwort we were given an initiation into his medicine world, granted permission if you like, to work with him, walking with his energy as part of our life path as medicine carriers. Later that day we were also shown how to work with the Spirit of Mugwort to realign the energy body (rather like Reiki is one way of looking at this), Mugwort is a powerful plant medicine that energetically can move through our body, the spine in particular, and remove any trauma and blockages from the spinal column and nervous system. I’m going to copy in the info here from the Mugwort healing section in Offerings for you!
Working with the Spirit of Mugwort, this powerful and gentle energy medicine works to assist with:
Long term injury
Post natal health
Mugwort works with moving energy, clearing pathways and relieves pain in doing so.
Mugwort works on your central nervous system, from the brain, down your spine and round your entire body.
These sessions are incredibly gentle, allowing your to fully rest for 20 minutes once the treatment begins.
The full session lasts for around 1 hour ????
Mugwort is an incredible plant medicine, having spent many months working with this wise elder teacher and been initiated into working deeper with him, I have had many beautiful journeys into his 7th Dimensional reality.
He is directly connected with our crown chakra and offers us such a calming experience when we meet him, the revelations on traveling in the dreamscape with him are so very profound and heart opening.
It is a great honour to work with this plant and to be of service to help others with his spirit energy.
Each time I work with this plant, be it as a tea, in the cacao medicine, or during healing sessions, I am always deeply humbled to experience this energy. Remembering that it is important to honour the time it takes for any plant to truly and thoroughly atune to our needs, rather than rush though it and out the other side so we can get back to our ‘busy’ again!
I hope one day that you would like to come experience what our plant teachers are waiting patiently for us to hear.
